When the NEW FUTURE project began, the art world was already in the midst of a furious transformation to adapt to new circumstances (coronavirus pandemic). If I were to sum up this situation in one sentence, I would use the words from Umberto Ecco’s novel The Name of the Rose. „We saw the world only as in a mirror and as a puzzle.“ Each of us personally had to look in our own mirror, which showed us the mistakes, the unspoken problems, the retrospective recapitulation of what we had done and we could go on. No one knew how long we would have to stay in this state, how deeply it would be etched into us, or how far it would change our current thinking. Everyone was preparing, betting, leaning on a better, new future that would always come as long as the present existed. It is for this reason that the project has been given the name NEW FUTURE, which combines the past, the present and hints at the future. It does not aim to comprehensively describe the situation and present solutions, but to point out the diversity, endurance, will and determination that art can convey, like that set mirror.
